Learn How to Effectively Race Santa Cruz 70.3

Purposely 3-weeks from race day – September 10th, this 1.5 day camp assists you in learning how to tackle the most challenging parts of the 70.3 course. The first being open water ocean swim around the famous Santa Cruz Wharf. The second is the out and back 56 mile ride up the gorgeous Pacific Coast Highway. Finally, run the key parts of the half marathon course. The PacWest coaching staff will also share details on how to fly through your transitions between swim to bike and bike to run.

As always, we factor in all aspects to make your training camp experience the highest in quality at the best value so you can focus on one thing only and that’s train!

Camp Highlights

  • Host hotel for one night only – Saturday, 19-Sunday 20 in Santa Cruz, CA
  • Secure bike storage (via locked trailer) at transition area during swims and runs Sat and Sun
  • T1 clinic followed by open water swim and long run Saturday afternoon
  • Optional group dinner Saturday evening in Santa Cruz (location TBD)
  • Second open water swim followed by 56-mile bike course and short brick Sunday
  • Full SAG (support and gear) services during ride
  • Aid station support along run course
  • Sports nutrition product (energy food and drink) provided

Tentative Camp Agenda #

Sat 8/19 – PM: Check into hotel, short camp orientation and transition clinic followed by open water swim and long run. Optional group dinner after in Santa Cruz.
Sun 8/20 – AM: YOYO (you’re on your own) breakfast, open water swim followed by T1 to 56-mile bike
Sun 8/20 – PM: Finish with quick T2 to short brick run

All participants are responsible for your own hotel reservations. Rates will vary based on availability as we will be in the region’s peak/high season.

Bike Transport & Storage Services

Each camp participant will travel with their bike and equipment to the host hotel Saturday afternoon. Depending on the number of participants and bikes, PacWest may look into renting an enclosed trailer to securely store bikes during group swims and runs in the transition area. For those needing their bikes transported to and from the camp, please notify us to coordinate pick up before camp.
