While the majority of the team competed down at Wildflower, a small contingent of PacWest elite and club team members stayed local and competed in the 30th Anniversary of the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on Sunday, May 2nd. We had 14 members brave the frigid waters and strong currents of the San Francisco Bay before tackling the challenging hills, trails and sand of the bike and run courses.

PacWest ascending back down at Lake San Antonio for the 28th Annual Wildflower Triathlons. Despite both our race and club teams being split amongst four different races over the weekend, we still had 53 athletes race both days in four different events including the Long Course and Olympic Distance.

PacWest Elite Athlete, Monique Petrov, was seriously injured when stuck head-on by an on-coming car last September while riding along Lucas Valley Road in San Rafael. She was nearing the completion of a 5+ hour training ride in her final preparations for the 2009 Ironman World Championship.

PacWest was well represented at the 2010 Ice Breaker Triathlon. PacWest pro triathlete, Jeff Piland, was the overall winner and took 1st in the M35-39. Elite age grouper and PacWest race team co-captain, John Murphy, finished 3rd overall and 1st in the M45-49. And rounding out the awards, Andrew Campbell, took 9th overall and 1st in the M30-34. Overall race win, 3 in the Top 10 and three 1st place awards. Well done gentlemen! Go PacWest!
